Carla Laemmle


1909 - 2014

The actress Carla Laemmle was born as Rebekah Isabelle Laemmle in Chicago. Her uncle was the legendary film producer Carl Laemmle from Universal Pictures.

Thanks to him she had her first movie appearance in the silent movie "The Phantom of the Opera" (25) where she played a minor role. It followed other silent movies like "Topsy and Eva" (27), "Uncle Tom's Cabin" (27) and "The Gate Crasher" (28).

She continued her film career in the sound film era of the 30s in few more movies but her performances remained support roles.

To these movies belong the horror classic "Dracula" (31), "Mystery of Edwin Drood" (35), "The Adventures of Frank Merriwell" (36) and "On Your Toes" (39).

Afterwards Carla Laemmle retired from the film business. It lasted more than 60 years before she made her cinematical comeback at the age of 92 with "The Vampire Hunters Club" (01).

Another nine years later followed her next movie "Pooltime" (10) at the age of 101, it followed "A Sad State of Affairs" (13), "The Extra" (14) and "Mansion of Blood" (14).

Besides her movies she also became a demanded interview partner as one of the last contemporary witnesses of a past Hollywood era.

Carla Laemmle died on June 12, 2014 at the age of 104.
