The actress Gertrude McCoy was born as Gertrude Lyon.
She already made first acting experiences as a child on different stages
before she got hired by the Edison Stock Company where she made her film
debut in 1910.
In the next years she appeared in countless short movies and Gertrude
McCoy became a popular star of the first half of the 1910s.
To her movies of those years belong "Heroes Three" (11), "The Summer
Girl" (11), "Jack and the Beanstalk" (12), "The Workman's Lesson" (12),
"A Dangerous Lesson" (12), "The Little Girl Next Door" (12), "Under False
Colors" (12), "The Mountaineers" (13), "A Letter to Uncle Sam" (13), "Kathleen
Mavoruneen" (13), "His Greatest Victory" (13), "The Vanishing Cracksman"
(13), "An American King" (14) and "The Impersonator" (14).
She left the Edison company in 1914 and continued her career as a freelanced
actress.
Till the end of the 10s she took part in "A Tragedy of the Rails" (15),
"The Phantom Thief" (15), "The Isle of Love" (16), "The Silent Wintess"
(17), "The Blue Bird" (18), "The Upsurper" (19) and "Angel Esquire" (19).
Her last movies came in the 20s into being and she impersonated roles
in the productions "The Golden Dawn" (21), "Was She Guilty?" (22), "The
Diamond Man" (24), "A Royal Divorce" (26), "Nelson" (26) and "Verborgene
Gluten" (28) - a German production with Alfons Fryland in the leading role.
Gertrude McCoy was married with the actor Duncan McRae.
