THE INTERNATIONAL SILENT MOVIE |
Louise Hampton
1881 - 1954 |
.
. The actress Louise Hampton had her greatest acting successes on stage, the film had normally only a secondary importance. She made her film debut in 1911 with "Driving a Girl to Destruction" (11), after that followed a longer interruption before she continued her film career with the movies "Brown Sugar" (22) and "The Eleventh Commandment" (24). When the talkies arose there was also the possibility to put in the speech yet her engagements in front of the camera kept seldom. Her first talky was "Nine Till Six" (32) and from the end of the 30's followed a whole string of movies, among them "Tobias and the Angel" (38), "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" (39), "His Lordship Goes to Press" (39), "Castle of Crimes" (40) and "The Saint Meets the Tiger" (41). To her last movies belong "Bedelia" (46), "Scrooge" (51) with a wonderful
Alistair Sim in the title role, "The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie
Men" (52) and "The Oracle" (53).
