. The actress Madge Kennedy began studies at the "Art Students League" in order to seize the occupation of an illustrator later. But when she took part in a student musical she got offered a fulltime
job at a small theater.
When Samuel Goldwyn founded "Goldwyn Pictures", he signed Madge Kennedy on and brought her successfully into play in his next movies. Madge Kennedy was soon a star in the film business too and was convincing with movies like "Baby Mine" (17), "The Danger Game" (18), "The Kingdom of Youth" (18), "A Perfect Lady" (18), "Strictly Confidential" (19), "The Truth" (20) and "The Highest Bidder" (21). When she left Samuel Goldwyn she took part in some movies of her husband
and producer Harold Bolster, so in "The Purple Highway" (23), "Scandal
Street" (25), "Bad Company" (25) and "Lying Wives" (25). After that she
retired from the film business and concentrated exclusively to the stage.
Only in 1952, when George Cukor engaged her for the movie "The Marrying Kind" (52), she started a second career as a character actress which she rounded off with movies like "The Rains of Ranchipur" (55), "The Catered Affair" (56), "Lust for Life" (56), "Houseboat" (58), "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" (69) and finally "Marathon Man" (76),, her last movie. Besides the cinema she also appeared in many TV productions like the
serials "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Leave It to Beaver".
