. The actress Marie Philbin owed her film career to a beauty contest win which was sponsored by Universal Pictures. The prize was a contract at Universal and Mary Philbin made her film debut in the movie "The Blazing Trail" (21). In the next years she took part in the movies "Danger Ahead" (21), "The Trouper" (22), "Human Hearts" (22), "Merry-Go Round" (22), "The Temple of Venus" (23) and "The Age of Desire" (23). After that followed her engagement for the classic "The Phantom of the Opera" at Lon Chaney's side and with it she became immortal for the film history. In her last years she played in "Stella Maris" (25), "Surrender" (27),
"Drums of Love" (28), "The Man Who Laughs" (28) and "After the Fog" (29),
but with the end of the silent movie era her career ended and she never
took part in a movie again.
