Der Animationsfilmer Myron
"Grim" Natwick startete seine künstle-
rische Laufbahn nach einem Studium an der
School of the Art Institute of Chicago als Illustrator
für Deckblätter von Musiknoten. 1920 fand Grim Natwick
den Weg zum Film und realisierte zunächst
als Regisseur
Animationsfilme wie "One Good Turn Deserves Another" (20),
"The Dummy" (20), "Yes Dear" (20) und "The Chicken Tief" (21).
Ab den 30er Jahren arbeitete Grim Natwick als Animator für
unzählige Filme, wobei vor allem seine Arbeiten für
das Flei-
scher Studio, das Ub Iwerks Studio, das Walter Lantz Stu-
dio und die Walt Disney Productions auch heute noch am
Bekanntesten sind.Seine berühmteste Figur war Betty
Boop, die er im Auftrag von Max Fleischer als
Freundin zu dessen erfolgreicher Figur
"Bimbo" zu Papier brachte. Betty Boop ge-
niesst auch heute noch grosse Popula-
rität. Betty Boop feierte ihr
Filmdebüt in "Dizzy Dishes" (30).
Obwohl Grim Natwick die
Figur ihr Erscheinungs-
bild verlieh, beanspruch-
te Max Fleischer je-
glichen Ruhm für sich
selbst, schliesslich
wechselte Grim Nat-
wich zum Ub Iwerks Stu-
dio und 1936 zu den Walt
Disney Productions. Zu Grim Nat-
wicks weiteren frühen Trickfilmen
als Animator gehören "Fire Bugs" (30),
"Mysterious Mose" (30), "Bimbo's
Initiation” (31), "Jail Birds" (31),
"The Office Boy" (32), "Jack and the
Beanstalk” (33), "Robin Hood, jr." (34), "Cave
Man" (34), "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp"
(34), "Sinbad the Sailor" (35),
"Mickey's Fire Brigade" (35),
"The Three Bears" (35) und
"Broken Toys" (35). In
der zweiten Hälfte der
30er Jahre folgten
weitere bekannte
Trickfilme, darun-
ter "Ali Baba" (36),
"Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs" (37) -
wo er für Schnee-
wittchen und den
Prinzen verant-
wortlich war.
und "Gulli-
ver's Tra-
vels” (39).
In den 40er
und 50er
Jahren
setzte Grim Natwick seine Laufbahn als Animationszeichner erfolgreich fort
und er arbeitete an
den Filmen "Popeye Presents Eugene, the Jeep" (40), "Fantasia" (40) - wo
er für Mickey Mouse
verantwortlich war - "Ski for Two" (44), "The Pied Piper of Basin Street"
(45), "Bathing Buddies" (46),
"The Reckless Driver" (46), "The Bandmaster" (47), "Trouble Indemnity"
(50), "Spare the Child" (54) und
"Terror Faces Magoo" (59). Zu seinen letzten filmischen Arbeiten gehören
die Serie "Felix the Cat" (60),
die Serie "The Mighty Hercules" (63), "Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical
Adventure" (77) und "The Princess
and the Cobbler" (93). Grim Natwicks Cousine Mildred
Natwick wurde eine bekannte Schauspielerin, sein
Bruder Frank Natwick nahm als Athlet an den Olympischen Sommerspielen 1908
teil. 1990 vertarb Grim
Natwick im Alter von 100 Jahren.
