The actor Jean-Pierre Aumont was born as Jean-Pierre Salomons in Paris.
His uncle was the popular comedian Georges Berr.
Jean-Pierre Aumont conquered the French audience at the beginning of
the 30's with movies like "Jean de la Lune" (31), "Dans les rues" (33),
"Eve cherche un père" (33), "Le voleur" (34), "Les yeux noirs" (35),
"Tarass Boulba" (36), "Le messager" (37), "Hôtel du Nord" (38) and
"Le déserteur" (39).
When the German marched into France, Jean-Pierre Aumont served in the
French Army under General Leclerc. He was decorated with the Kriegsverdienstkreuz
and was admitted to the Legion of Honour.
At the beginning of the 40's he emigrated to the USA where he was able
to continue his film career.
To his well-known movies of the 40's belong "Assignment in Brittany"
(43), "The Cross of Lorraine" (43), "Song of Scheherazade" (47) and "Sirens
of Atlantis" (49). During the shooting of the last-mentioned movie he met
his second wife, the actress Maria Montez.
Jean-Pierre Aumont worked successful in both continents from the 50's,
and his international career continued till to the 90's.
With movies like "L'amant de paille" (51), "Lili" (53), "Si Versailles
m'était conté" (54), "Napoléon" (55), "Hilda Crane"
(56), "The Seventh Sin" (57), "John Paul Jones" (59), "The Enemy General"
(60), "The Devil at 4 O'Clock" (61), "Le couteau dans la plaie" (62) and
"Castle Keep" (69) he kept in the awarness of the audience.
As one gots older his creative power kept undiminished. In his last
decades he impersonated impressive role in productions like "La nuit américaine"
(73), "Catherine et Cie" (75), "Blackout" (78), "The Memory of Eva Ryker"
(80), "Nana" (82), "Le sang des autres" (84), "Windmills of the Gods" (88),
"Becoming Colette" (91), "Crimes et jardins" (91), "Giorgino" (94) and
"Jefferson in Paris" (95).
Jean-Pierre Aumont was awarded with the Honorary César in 1991.
He was married with the actresses Blanche Montel, Maria Montez and
Marisa Pavan.
