The director Bertrand Blier was born as the son of the well-known actor
Bernard Blier. He began his film career as an
assistant of directors like Christian-Jaque
and Jean Delannoy.
He realised his first own direction in 1963 with "Hitler, connais pas"
(63), but the production was a flop. It followed "La grimace" (66) and
"Si j'étais un espion" (67).
Bertrand Blier restrained from directing in the following years, he
preferred to create quality instead of quantity, a demand he almost always
fulfilled.
In the 70's and 80's he directoed his most successful movies, among
them "Les valseuses - Die Ausgebufften" (74) with Gérard
Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere, "Préparez vos mouchoirs - Frau
zu verschenken", again with Depardieu and Deware - the movie was awarded
with an Oscar for the best foreign language film, "Buffet froid - Den Mörder
trifft man am Buffet" (79), "Tenue de soirée - Abendanzug" (86)
and "Trop belle pour toi - Zu schön für dich" (89).
To his latest works belong "Merci la vie" (91), "Mon homme" (96) and
"Les côtelettes" (03).
Bertrand Blier also won two Césars in 1980 and 1985 in the category
"Best Script and in 1990 he won even three Césars for the script,
for directing and for the best film for "Trop belle pour toi" (89). Moreover
he was nominated for other Césars in 1987, 1992 and 1994.
