The filmcomposer Claude Bolling belongs to the busiest musicians in
France who works together with artists from jazz, pop and classic.
He acquired first musical knowledges at the age of 12 and soon became
soon an esteemed jazz pianist.
Bolling studied musical harmony by Maurice Furufle and counterpoint
by André Hodeir in the next years.
When World War II broke out he had to go to the underground because
it was forbidden by the Nazis to play jazz. There he could collect many
experiences which he could develop after 1945 when many important personalities
from the jazz came to Paris. There he met Duke Ellington who became his
teacher and friend.
In the period following he toured through France, gave concerts and
made music recordings with jazz artists like Buck Clayton, Lionel Hampton
and Bill Coleman.
His talent as an arrangeur brought him together with performers of the
popular mucis. He worked together with Sacha Distel, Mirelle Mathieu, Juliette
Greco, Brigitte Bardot, Jerry Lewis or Liza Minelli.
His variety led him to the film business too where he already made his
first compostitions in the 50's and 60's. From the 70's he became a regular
supplier of impressive soundtracks.

But the jazz remainded his great love. As a solist or in groups he prefers
to set foot on unknown territories. His works for movies became rarer today
instead he concentrates more to new experiments which will surely produce
interesting combinations.
