The actor Julien Carette (also just called Carette) began his film
career in the silent movie era but only from the 30's he became famous
to a wide public.
First he attended the academy of arts with the goal to become a painter.
But he soon had to realize that his talent wasn't enough for it.
Finally he came to the theater Odéon where he impersonated his
first roles as an extra.
When he was able to gain a foothold in the French talkies he appeared
in the movies "Attaque nocturen" (31) and "Amour à l'américaine"
(32) before he managed his breakthrough with "L'affaire est dans le sac"
(32).
In the next years followed many well-known productions like "Je te
confie ma femme" (33), "Georges et Georgette" (33) "Turandot, princesse
de Chine" (34), "Dora Nelson" (35), "Le golem" (36), "Gribouille" (37),
"La grande illusion" (37), "La Marseillaise" (38), "La bête humaine"
(38) and "La règle du jeu" (39).
As director Jean Renoir in the 30's the director Claude
Autant-Lara took up an important place in Carette's film career and
they realized together several movies, among them "Lettres d'amour" (42),
"Occuppe-toi d'Amélie" (49), "L'auberge rouge" (51) and "Le joueur"
(58).
To his other popular movies of the 40's belong "Tempête" (40),

(43), "Sylvie et le fantôme" (45), "Les portes de la nuit" (46) and
"Ronde de nuit" (49).
He was able to demonstrate his impressive acting talent in the 50's
again and created his characters with great skill.
To his well-known movies of the 50's and early 60's belong "La marie
du port" (50), "La fête à Henriette" (52), "Le bon Dieu sans
confession" (53), "L'amour d'une femme" (54), "Si Paris nous était

An advanced arthritis finished his career and Julien Carette retired
from the film business.
At the end of his life he had to spend his time sometimes partially
paralyzed or sitting on a chair owing to illness. When he tried to light
a cigarette his clothing kindled and Carette was burnt to death.
