The actress Arielle Dombasle was born as Arielle Sonnery de Fromental
in Norwich, USA. She grew up in Mexico where she lived with her grandparents
after the premature dead of her mother.
She took lessons for classical dance and came soon in contact with a
theater group. When she went to Paris in 1976 this was the first step to
a remarkable career in France.
She made her film debut with the serial "Mazarin" (78), it followed
appearances in "Perceval le Gallois" (79) directed by Eric Rohmer and "Tess"
(79) directed by Roman Polanski.
She became established as an actress in the 80's who impressed with
her beauty but also with her acting abilities.
To her well-known movies of those years belong "Les fruits de la passion"
(81), "Le beau mariage" (82), "Pauline à la plage - Pauline
am Strand" (83), "Lace" (84), "Vive la mariée" (85), "The Boss'
Wife" (86), "Les pyramides bleues" (88) and the serial "Around the World
in 80 Days" (89).
Her roles changed in the course of time and she also appeared often
in comedies. It followed many roles in the next years, among them productions
like "Moi, général de Gaulle" (90), "Zwischensaison" (92),
"Grand bonheur" (93), "Un indien dans la ville" (94), "Soyons amis" (96),
"Opération Bugs Bunny" (97), "L'ennui" (98) - for which she was
nominated for a César as best support actress and "Astérix
et Obélix contre César - Asterix und Obelix gegen Cäsar"
(99).
To her latest cinematical works belong "Vatel" (00), "Deux" (02), Claude
Lelouch's trilogy "Le genre humain" (04)
and "Milady" (05).
Besides her activities as an actress she also realised two movies as
a director - "Chassé-croisé" (82) and "Les pyramides bleues"
(88) for which she also wrote the script.
Arielle Dombasle is married with the writer Bernard Henry Lévy.
