. The actress Aissa Maiga was born in Dakar and went to Paris with her family at the age of four. After the school she joined a theater study but abandoned after few months. But her ambition to become an actress was still present but the start into an acting career was not easy because dark-skinned actresses are nearly not existing in the European film business. Finally she made her stage debut with the musical "La nuit la plus longue". In 1997 she also made her film debut with "Saraka Bo" (97) at Richard Bohringer's side. She soon became a demanded actress and she impersonated roles in "Un mois de réflexion" (98), "Maison de famille" (99), "Jonas et Lila, à demain" (99) with her first leading role under the direction of the Swiss director Alain Tanner, "Le prof" (00), "Lise et André" (00), "Négro" (02), "Les baigneuses" (03), "Par accident" (04) and "Caché" (05). The breakthrough followed in 2006 with her role in "Bamako". For this role she was nominated for a César in the category "talented young actor". From now on she belonged to the stars of the French cinema, to her other movies belong "Carcasse" (07), "L'âge d'homme...maintenant ou jamais!" (07), "Bianco e nero" (08), "Quand la ville mord" (09), "Pas de toit sans moi" (09), "Le temps de la kermesse est terminé" (10) and "L'avocat" (10).
