1891 - 1974

She had already been successfully working at the theater when she met director Jacques Feyder. They got married and Françoise Rosay concentrated on movies from now on.

She made her film debut already in 1913 with "Falstaff". But her real career only took shape in the 20's when she took part in movies like "Crainquebille" (22), "Gribiche" (25), "Madame Récamier" (28) and "The One Woman Idea" (29).

The sound film offered to the likeable actress new possibilites and the 30's marked the height of her career with over 40 movies in France and single excursions to Germany. She appeared among others in the successful movies "Le petit café" (31), "Quand on est belle" (31), "La chance" (31), "Casanova wider Willen" (31), "Tout pour rien" (33), "Die Insel" (34), "Le grand jeu" (34), "Marchand d'amour" (35), "La symphonie des brigands" (36), "Jenny" (36), "Le ruisseau" (38) and "Fahrendes Volk" (38).

Where other actresses complained of lacking work from a certain age, the role offers for Françoise Rosay kept upright. She could enrich her impressive career with countless movies till her death.

In the 40's, affected by the war, she played in "Une femme disparaît" (42), "Johnny Frenchman" (45), "La dame de haut le bois" (46), "Quartet" (49) and "On n'aime qu'une fois" (49).

When Europe and the film market recovered after the war, the offers increased again. Françoise Rosay appeared among others in the movies "September Affair" (50), "The 13th Letter" (51), "L'auberge rouge" (51), "Wanda la peccatrice" (52), "La reine Margot" (54), "Interlude" (57) "The Seventh Sin" (57), "Le joueur" (58), "Du rififi chez les femmes" (59) and "Les yeux de l'amour" (59).

In the 60's came well-known productions into being like "Colombe" (60), "The Full Treatment" (61), "La petite Dorrit" (61), "Frau Cheneys Ende" (61), "Le cave se rebiffe" (61), "La métamorphose des cloportes" (65), "La vingt-cinquième heure" (67) and "Un merveilleux parfum d'oseille" (69). 

With the movie "Der Fussgänger" (73) she appeared a last time on the big screen.
