The actor Jean-Louis Trintignant began his career at different French
theaters in 1951. Five years later followed his film debut with the movies
"Si tous les gars du monde - TKX antwortet nicht" (56), "La loi des rues-
Das Gesetz der Strasse" (56), "Et Dieu...créa la femme - Und immer
lockt das Weib" (56) and "Club des femmes" (56).
His affair with Brigitte Bardot produced a big turmoil and Jean-Louis
Trintignant steered clear of it by volunteering for the military for three
years.
Afterwards followed other roles, among them "Austerlitz" (60), "Pleins
feux sur l'assassin" (61), "Le jeu de la vérité" (61), "L'atlantide"
(61), "Les siffleurs" (64), "Mata-Hari" (64) and "Merveilleuse Angélique"
(65).
In 1966 followed the breakthrough with the production "Un homme et une
femme" (66) and Jean-Louis Trintignant became well-known internationally.
Other movies like "Paris brûle-t-il?" (66), "Un homme à
abattre" (67), "Mon amour, mon amour" (67), "L'homme qui ment" (68), "Ma
nuit chez Maud" (69) and "Z" (69) underpinned his status.
The 70's and 80's offered this impressive character actor a fullness
of other wonderful roles in which he was able to bring his acting ability
into play.
To his well-known movies of those years belong "Il conformista" (70),
"Le voyou" (70), "L'attentat" (72), "Le train" (73), "Flic Story" (75),
"Les passagers" (77), "L'argent des autres" (78), "La banquière"
(80), "La terrazza" (80), "Le grand pardon" (82), "La nuit de Varennes"
(82), "Credo" (83), "Viva la vie!" (84), "Un homme et une femme, 20 ans
déjà" (86) and "Le moustachu" (87).
From the middle of the 80's he made himself visibly rare on the big
screen, instead of it he acted again more often on stage.
His sporadic appearances in movies remained on high qualilty and his
acting work was rewarded with three nominations for a César in 1995,
1996 and 1999. His first nomination for this award he already got in 1987.
To his lastest works belong "Merci la vie" (91), "Trois couleurs: Rouge"
(94), "Fiesta" (95), "Un homme est tombé dans la rue" (96) and "Imortel"
(04).
Besides his acting activity he also realised few movies as a director
and wrote the scripts.
He was married with the actress Stéphane Audran and the director
Nadine Trintignant. His daughter Marie Trintignant became also an actress,
her tragic death in 2004 made the headlines in the newspapers.
