John Debney erlernte als 6-jähriger das Gitarrenspiel und kam
so schon früh mit der Musik in Kontakt. Später studierte er Musik
und Komposition an der Universität von Kalifornien.
Sein Vater Louis Debney war Produzent der Disney-Studios und dort
erhielt John Debney auch seine ersten Filmkompositionsaufträge.
Zu seinen ersten Filmen gehören "Deer in the Works" (80), die
Serie "Dragons Lair" (84), "The All-New Adventures of Disney's Sport Goofy"
(84), "Donald Duck's 50th Birthday" (84) sowie "Not Since Casanova" (88)
und die Serie "Dink, the Little Dinosaur" (89).
In dieser Zeit arbeitete er auch häufig als Assistent anderer
bekannter Filmkomponisten wie Mike Post, Jerry Goldsmith und John Williams.
Erst im Laufe der 90er Jahre konnte er sich endgültig als selbständiger
Filmkomponist durchsetzen und seitdem gehört John Debney zu den gefragtesten
Komponisten Hollywoods.
Zu seinen Filmen der 90er Jahre gehören "Jetsons: The Movie"
(90), "Class of '61" (93), die Serie "SeaQuest DSV" (93-94), "Little Giants"
(94), die Serie "The Pretender" (96), "Liar Liar" (97), "I Know What You
Did Last Summer" (97), "Inspector Gadget" (99) und "End of Days" (99).
Seine grosse Bandbreite kam auch in den letzte Jahren eindrücklich
zum Einsatz und er schrieb die Musik zu vielen bekannten Produktionen,
darunter "The Replacements" (00), "Spy Kids" (01), "Cats & Dogs" (01),
"Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" (01), "The Scorpion King" (02), "Bruce Almighty"
(03), "The Passion of the Christ" (04), wofür er für den Oscar
nominiert wurde, "Sin City" (05), "Venom" (05), "Idlewild" (06) und "Meet
Dave" (08).
John Debney wurde für seine Musik zudem mit drei Emmys und zwei
Emmy-Nominationen ausgezeichnet.
