Zu seinen ersten Filmkompositionen gehören "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Hollywood" (67) und "Don't Drink the Water" (69).

In den 70er Jahren setzte er sich endgültig als Filmkomponist durch und vertonte "Macho Callahan" (70), "Evel Knievel" (71), "Terror in the Sky" (71), "The Streets of San Francisco" (72), "Sssssss" (73), "Murder or Mercy" (74), "Crossfire" (75), "Most Wanted" (76), "Escapade" (78) und "Butch and Sundance: The Early Days" (79).

Seine Schaffenskraft für Film und Fernsehen blieb in den kommenden Jahrzehnten ungebrochen und Patrick Williams schrieb die Musik zu Produktionen wie "Used Cars" (80), "Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen" (81), "Moonlight" (82), "All of Me" (84), "Maybe Baby" (88), "Worth Winning" (89), "Cry-Baby" (90), "Legacy of Lies" (92), "Geronimo" (93), "French Silk" (94), "The Grass Harp" (95), "After Jimmy" (96), "Mother Knows Best" (97), "Solomon" (97) und "Jesus" (99).

Zu seinen jüngsten filmischen Arbeiten zählen "The Three Stooges" (00), "Blonde" (01), "Power and Beauty" (02), "Heart of a Stranger" (02), "When Angels Come to Town" (04) und "Hercules" (05).

In seiner langen Karriere wurde Patrick Williams für 23 Emmys, 12 Grammys und einen Oscar nominiert. Vier Mal durfte er den Emmy und zwei Mal den Grammy in Empfang nehmen.

Neben der Filmmusik arrangierte Patrick Williams für viele Sänger die Musik, darunter Frank Sinatra, Amy Grant, Barbra Streisand und Billy Joel. Auch für seine Konzert-Arbeiten wurde er gefeiert, dazu gehören "An American Concerto", "Gulliver" und "August".
