. The actor Ewald Balser made his theater debut in 1919 and worked for the next few years in Basel, Düsseldorf, Berlin and finally he came to Vienna where he became a Burgschauspieler in 1931. He made his film debut in 1935 with "Jana, das Mädchen aus dem
Böhmerwald". But it lasted three more years before he became established
in the film business and was able to impersonated many roles as a character
actor.
He was able to continue his career smoothly after the war and his popularity even increased in the 50's. To his remarkable productions belong among others "Die Lüge" (50), "Sauerbruch - Das war mein Leben" (54) - in which he impersonated the title role - "Kinder, Mütter und ein General" (55) as General, "Spionage" (55), "Sarajevo/Um Thron und Liebe" (55), "Es geschah am hellichten Tag" (58) and "Arzt ohne Gewissen" (59). From the 60's he nearly exclusively concentrated to the theater again.
To his last cinematical works belong "Ruf der Wildgänse" (61), "Jedermann"
(61) and "Viel Lärmen um nichts" (75).
