Hans Fritz Beckmann

. The lyricist Hans Fritz Beckmann belonged to the most successful film song lyricists of the German film and he wrote the words for numerous popular songs. His family emigrated to Argentina in 1920 where Hans Fritz Beckmann grew up in Buenos Aires. When he was force to enter a commercial education he run way and went back to Germany in 1928 as a ship's boy. There he was able to start his artistic career in Berlin at the varieté. It followed an engagement at the "Kabarett der Namenlosen", in 1934 he was engaged by Trude Hesterberg for the cabaret "Musenschaukel". The film composer Theo Mackeben also worked for "Musenschaukel". When they met there Hans Fritz Beckmann wrote the lyrics for Mackebens filmsongs in "Liebe, Tod und Teufel" (34). He was successful straightaway and he became a demanded lyricist in the next years. He wrote the words for songs in movies like "Das Mädchen Johanna" (35), "Der Mann mit der Pranke" (35), "Glückskinder" (36), "Allotria" (36), "Unter heissem Himmel" (36), "Gasparone" (37), "Man spricht über Jacqueline" (37), "Tanz auf dem Vulkan" (38), "Bel Ami" (39), "Hallo Janine!" (39) and "Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht" (39). He wrote numerous lyrics for catchy songs during World War II of the 40s for productions like "Kora Terry" (40), "Operette" (40), "Ohm Krüger" (41), "O, diese Männer" (41), "Akrobat schö-ö-ö-n" (42), "Frauen sind keine Engel" (42), "Die Sache mit Styx" (42), "Familie Buchholz" (43) and "Das Mädchen Christine" (44). Hans Fritz Beckmann was able to continue his film career in the 50s but he was no longer as successful as before the end of war. To his last cinematical works as a lyricist belong "Heidelberger Romanze" (51), "Es geschehen noch Wunder" (51), "Arlette erobert Paris" (53), "Charleys Tante" (56), "Der eiserne Gustav" (58) and "Bankraub in der Rue Latour" (61). Besides his activity as a lyricist Hans Fritz Beckmann also wrote the music for few movies and furthermore he wrote numerous screenplays. To these screenplays belong "Die Entführung" (36), "Kleiner Mann - ganz gross!" (38), "Bel Ami" (39), "Hallo Janine!" (39), "Der Weg ins Freie" (41), "Frech und verliebt" (48), "Skandal im Mädchenpensionat" (53), "Arlette erobert Paris" (53) and "Familie Musici" (68).
