. The actress Esther Carena was born as Franziska Julia Friederike Pfeiffer in Hannover. After a study in medicine for one semester she joined an artist group and learnt their artistry. She lived in Italy till 1916 and also performed some sketches there. When she returned to Germany in 1916 she was able to gain foothold in the film business thanks to the actor Nils Chrisander and she made her film debut at his side in "Zwischen halb elf und elf" (16). In the next years she impersonated a lot of leading roles. To these movies belong "Die Peitsche" (16), "Sein Todfeind" (17), "Ikarus, der fliegende Mensch" (18), "Ich klage an" (19), "Die Schuldige" (21) and "Raffinierte Frauen" (23). Many movies she took part were directed by Eugen Illés. In 1924 she already retired from the film business. She was married
with the art director Franz Schroedter.
