. The actor Horst Caspar learnt the acting profession by the famous actresses Ilka Grüning and Lucie Höflich before he started his impressive career at the Stadttheater Bochum in 1933. From there he went via the Munich Kammerspiele to the Schillertheater in Berlin in 1940. He had huge successes in the next years and was considered to be a great talent. It didn't last long till the film business became aware of him. Still
he only appeared in the medium rarely.
In the last year of World War II he took part in the "hold out" epos "Kolberg" (45) directed by Veit Harlan. Horst Caspar only took part in two more movies after the war – "Begegnung mit Werther" (49) and "Epilog: Das Geheimnis der Orplid" (50). Horst Caspar died at the age of only 39 at hemoptysis. He was married with the actress Antje Weisgerber. |
