. The art director Kurt Dürnhöfer got an education in the artistic topics architecture and painting. When he met the film pioneer Alfred Duskas he was engaged as his art director for the first film shootings. In those days they were similar to stage performances and were called "Tonbilder". Only from the 10s the film business found his own way to express itself. Kurt Dürnhöfers first production designs came into being during this early period for "Der Hauptmann von Köpenick" (06), "Das Erdbeben von Messina" (08), "Der Bettelstudent" (08) and "Don Juan heiratet" (09). Kurt Dürnhöfer remained true to this new medium and in the next years he was responsible for numerous movies as an art director. Among them "Madame Butterfly" (12), "Die Dame in Schwarz" (12), "Der schwarze Diamant" (13), "Lepain" (14) and "Die Fledermäuse von Rondshill" (14). During World War I the number of film productions were reduced severly, beside it Kurt Dürnhöfer was also recruited between 1915 and 1916. Only after the war his engagements for movies increased again. To his movies after World War I belong "Die Schuld" (19), "Rose Bernd" (19), "Der letzte Schuss" (20), "Der Raub der Dollarprinzessin" (21), "Sterbende Völker" (22), "Des Kaisers alte Kleider" (23), "Taras Bulba" (24) and "Almenrauschen und Edelweiss" (28). Kurt Dürnhöfer was able to demonstrate his skilled trade again for many entertainment movies of the 30s. To his well-known works belong "Gruss und Kuss - Veronika" (33), "Die beiden Seehunde" (34), "Endstation" (35), "Ein seltsamer Gast" (36), "Das Schweigen im Walde" (37) and "Das Ekel" (39). His last cinematical works came during World War II into being. He was responsible for the production design of "Alles Schwindel" (40), "Der Herr im Haus" (40), "Krach im Vorderhaus" (41), "Der verkaufte Grossvater" (41) and "Ein Herz schlägt für Dich" (44).
