. The actor Anton Edthofer belonged to the great actors of the Viennese theater who played successfully in modern as well as classic plays. He made his theaterdebut in 1904 at the Intimes Theater in Munich, only
two years later he gained a foothold in his hometown Vienna.
His first film appearance was in 1911 in "Der Unbekannte" (11), it followed
the movies "Das Opfer" (18) and "Der Eid des Stephan Huller" (19).
Anton Edthofer was normally engaged in bigger support roles in the talkies of the 30's, to these movies belong "Arm wie eine Kirchenmaus" (31), "Moral und Liebe" (33), "Pygmalion" (35), "Die Leuchter des Kaisers" (36) and "Die unentschuldigte Stunde" (37). After the war however, he only appeared in few more movies, among them "Der Engel mit der Posaune" (48) and "Wiener Mädeln" (49), but his theater career lasted till brief to his death. To his numerous awards belong the Max Reinhardt-Ring which he got as the first actor at all as well as the Josef Kainz medal in 1960. Anton Edthofer was married with the actress Helene
Thimig.
