The actress Maria Eis had her first successes on the stage where she worked especially in Vienna between 1918 and 1923. Finally she went to Germany where she appeared at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg for many years.

When she returned to Vienna she became a successful character actress at the famous Burgtheater, where she was engaged till her death.

Maria Eis appeared for the first time in a movie in 1935 called "Episode" (35). In the next years came only few more movies into being, among them "Spiegel des Lebens" (38) and "Tanz mit dem Kaiser" (41).

Only at the end of the 40's she appeared more regular in front of the camera. To her well-known movies belong "Der Prozess" (48), "Liebling der Welt" (49), "Asphalt" (51), "Maria Theresia" (51), "Pünktchen und Anton" (53), "Ewiger Walzer" (54) and "Weg in die Vergangenheit" (54).
