1889 - 1937

The actor Paul Graetz began his career on small stages in Germany before he was spotted and promoted by the legendary Max Reinhardt.

After contemporary and classic roles Paul Graetz took part at Reinhardt's cabaret "Schall und Rauch" and became a very popular comedian in Berlin.

The enourmous succuess finally led to first cinematical works with silent movies like "Der Galeerensträfling" (19), "Die gelbe Fratze" (19), "Maria Magdalene" (19), Sumurun" (20) and "Christian Wahnschaffe, 1. Teil: Weltbrand" (20).

In the 20's followed tha artistic heigth of his career and Paul Graetz appeared in countless stage and film productions.
To his well-known silent movies of the 20's belong "Die Bergkatze" (21), "Monna Vanna" (22), "Sie und die Drei" (22), "I.N.R.I." (23), "Der Mann im Sattel" (25), "Die drei Mannequins" (26), "Eine tolle Nacht" (27), "Die indiskrete Frau" (27), "Der Kampf ums Matterhorn" (28) and "Moral" (28).

Paul Graetz was only able to unfold his talent for a brief time in the talkies of the 30's, among others in "Zwei Welten" (30), "Das verlorene Paradies" (31), "Das gelbe Haus des King-Fu" (31) and "Berge in Flammen" (31).
With the seizure of power by the National Socialists the Jew Paul Graetz had to emigrate to London in 1933 and two years later to Hollywood.
In England and in the USA he could only impersonate smaller support roles in movies like "The Scotland Yard Mystery" (33), "Murder at Monte Carlo" (34), "Jew Süss" (34), "Bulldog Jack" (35) and "Bengal Tiger" (36).
