The actor Tibor von Halmay was often engaged for roles of people of
the high society thanks to his grand appearance. Especially in the 30's
he became a darling of the public.
His first film was "Der Erzieher meiner Tochter" (29). When the sound
film revolutionized the film business it marked also the begin of Tibor
von Halmay great career. He took part in normally musical entertainment
movies in the following years.
To his well-known movies of the 30's belong "Zwei Herzen im Dreivierteltakt"
(30), "Liebe in Uniform" (32), "Teilnehmer antwortet nicht" (32), "Viereinhalb
Musketiere" (35), "Rendezvous in Wien" (36), "Pat und Patachon im Paradies"
(37) and "Hotel Sacher" (39).
Finally Tibor von Halmay was forbidden to work because his Aryan ancestry
was not proven but he was able to ease the doubts and could continue to
work as an actor.
During the wartime followed engagements in Germany, Austria and Hungary.
To his last cinematical works belong "Frau nach Mass" (40), "Maske in Blau"
(42) and "Orient-Express" (44).
Apparently Tibor von Halmay could hide his Jewish descent but instead
he was drafted to the army as a German soldier and shall been killed in
action.
Other sources say that he died shortly before his 50th birthday in
Budapest under unknown circumstances.
