1903 - 1978

He began his acting career at the beginning of the 20's at a layman theater and intensified his acting intention with the attendance at Max Reinhardt's acting school.

He already took for the first time part in the film classic "Der letzte Mann" (24), directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, even if only as an extra. It took eight more years till he was able to gain a foothold in the film business. 
In the meantime he earned his money with engagements an different theaters in Germany. 
From 1932 followed regular role offers in movies in which he was engaged for support roles till the end of the war. To his well-known movies of the 30's and 50's belong "Peter Voss, der Millionendieb" (32), "Peer Gynt" (34), "Der schüchterne Casanova" (36), "Stukas" (41), "Illusionen" (41), "Rembrandt" (42), "Dr. Crippen an Bord" (42) and "Der Täter ist unter uns" (44).

O.E. Hasse was called up to the Wehrmacht in 1944 and was luckily assigned to the Hauptfilmstelle of the Reichsluftwaffe.
After the war began the great career of O.E. Hasse. At the beginning he took part in the German productions "Berliner Ballade" (48) and "Anonyme Briefe" (49), after that he went to the USA at the invitation of the State Department. In the USA he appeared in the movies "The Big Lift" (50), "Decision Before Dawn" (50), in Alfred Hitchcock's "I Confess" (53) and as the antagonist of Clark Gable in "Betrayed" (54).

He became an international star and appeared successful in Germany and France in the following years. To his well-known movies of the 50's and 60's belong together with "Canaris" the movies "Die Letzten werden die Ersten sein" (57), "Les aventures d'Arsène Lupin - Arsène Lupin-Der Millionendieb" (57), "Les espions - Spione am Werk" (57), "Der Arzt von Stalingrad" (57), "Der Maulkorb" (58), "Die Ehe des Herrn Mississippi" (61) and "Geliebter Lügner" (63).
In the 70's followed only few more appearances, so in "Der unsichtbare Aufstand" (72), "Eiszeit" (74) and "Sanfter Schrecken" (76).
