1904 - 1944
The screenwriter and director Bernd Hofmann finished a study in Cologne before he started his stage career in Mönchengladbach where he realised first plays as a director. It followed engagements in Hanau, St. Gallen, Vienna and Berlin.
In the 30s he wrote several plays for the theater, beside it he also wrote screenplays for movies like "Lady Windermeres Fächer" (35), "Der schüchterne Casanova" (36), "Eine Frau ohne Bedeutung" (36), "Hahn im Korb" (37), "Lauter Lügen" (38) and "Der Florentiner Hut" (39).
In 1939 Bernd Hofmann realised his first movie as a director with "Irrtum des Herzens" (39), it followed few more directed movies with "Alles Schwindel" (40) and "Fahrt ins Leben" (40). For all these three movies he also wrote the screenplay.
