Max Knaake

. The production designer Max Knaake finished an education in Berlin where he joined the university of visual arts. Afterwards he started his professional career at Gaumont where he made first experiences in the film business. For Gaumont he created the set for the movie "La reddition de Huningue" (12). He became established as a production designer in the 20s where he was engaged for numerous productions. To his well-known works of those years belong "Ich bin Du" (21), "Zapfenstreich" (25), Die vom anderen Ufer" (26), "Die Wiskottens" (26), "Die Sporck'schen Jäger" (27), "Die elf Teufel" (27), "Geschlecht in Fesseln" (28) and "Ich lebe für Dich" (29). He created again the scenery for a lot of movies in the sound film era of the 30s, among them "Abschied" (30), "Johannisnacht" (33), "Die göttliche Jette" (37), "Skandal um den Hahn" (38) and "Menschen, Tiere, Sensationen" (38). He was engaged for movies during World War II as well and he was the production designer for "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (40), "Spielt mit der Liebe" (44) and "Glück bei Frauen" (44). He only worked rarely for the film business after the war, for example "Gesprengte Gitter" (53) and "Wer seine Frau lieb hat" (55). Besides his activity as a production designer he also realised the movie "Durchs Brandenburger Tor: Solang noch Untern Linden..." (29) as a director.
