In the 20's followed the height of his acting career and he took part in many well-known productions of that time.
To these movies belong "Ilona" (21), "Die Geliebte Roswolskys" (21), "Die Bestie im Menschen" (21), "Der Roman eines Dienstmädchens" (21), "Phantom" (22) directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, "Der rote Reiter" (23), "Athleten" (25), "Luther" (27) and "Tagebuch einer Verlorenen" (29).

With the rise of the talkies he appeared in German as well as American production, in 1931 he emigrated to the USA for good.
To his early talkies belong "Doughboys" (30) with Buster Keaton, "Men of the North" (30) directed by Hal Roach, "Mordprozess Mary Dugan" (31) and "Die grosse Fahrt" (31).
