. The screenwriter and author Hugo Landsberger studied history and literature after he abandoned his commercial training. He began his professional career as an author for different newspapers and journals which he published under the pen name Hans Land. It followed numerous novels, among them "Die am Wege sterben" (1889), "Stiefkinder der Gesellschaft" (1889), "Die heilige Ehe" (1893), "Die Richterin" (1893; "Die Tugendhafte" (1895), "Um das Weib" (1896), "Schlagende Wetter" (1897), "Liebesopfer" (00), "Artur Imhoff" (05), "Königliche Bettler" (06), "Stürme" (09), "Staatsanwalt Jordan" (15), "Friedrich Werders Sendung" (17), "Das Mädchen mit dem Goldhelm" (18), "Spartacus" (19), "Entlgeist" (22), "Das Mädchen aus dem goldenen Westen" (22), "Der Liebeskäfig" (25), "Der Fechter von Capua" (27) and "Kampf um Eva" (30). He came to the film in 1913 when he filmed his own novel "Stürme" (13). He was responsible both as a director and screenwriter. Afterwards he wrote other screenplays which often were based on his novels but he also wrote independant screenplays. To his screenplays of those years belong "Friedrich Werders Sendung" (17), "Der Richter" (17), "Die singende Hand" (18), "Das Wort der Sybille" (18), "Der Ring der drei Wünsche" (18), "Der junge Goethe" (19), "Die Kleine vom Film" (22), "Die Affäre der Baronesse Orlowska" (23) and "Der Liebeskäfig" (25). In the 20s Hugo Landsberger also appeared as an actor in front of the camera like "Schamlose Seelen oder Ein Mädchenhandel" (22), "Die Kleine vom Film" (22), "Das Mädchen aus dem goldenen Westen" (22) and "Mutter und Kind" (24). Hugo Landsberger was married with the stage actress Lola Rameau. Other
