. The actor and director Adolf Edgar Licho made first acting experiences at the theater in his home country Russia before he went to Western Europe where he was engaged in Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and Berlin. When he settled in Berlin for a longer time and also managed several theaters he was engaged for the film as well. At the beginning of his film career he took part in the productions "Schuldig" (14), "Der fremde Fürst" (18), "Der gelbe Schein" (18) and "Keimendes Leben" (19). He became established as a charactor actor in the 20s for the German silent film and he appeared in some important movies as well. To his popular movies of those years belong "Von morgens bis mitternacht" (20), "Whitechapel" (20), "Madame Récamier" (20), "Entgleist" (21), "Die Geliebte Roswolskys" (21), "Lucrezia Borgia" (22), "Komödianten" (25), "Der Demütige und die Tänzerin" (25), "Die Liebe der Jeanne Ney" (27), "Luther" (28) and "Skandal in Baden-Baden" (29). The 30s offered him again engagements for some considerable productions and he impersonated roles in "Alraune" (30), "1914, die letzten Tage vor dem Weltbrand" (31), "Grock" (32), "Menschen hinter Gittern" (31), "Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse" (33), "Tagebuch der Geliebten" (35) and "Katharina, die Letzte" (36). With the takeover of the National Socialism his film career in Germany ended in 1933 and in Austria in 1937. He first fled to Paris where he took part in the movies "Chéri-Bibi" (38), "Le drame de Shanghai" (38) and "Gibraltar" (38) , but when France was occupied by the Germans too he fled again, this time to the USA. There he was able to continue his film career indeed but he only got offered minor roles. His last cinematical works were "It Started with Eve" (41), "To Be or Not to Be" (42), "Reunion in France" (42), "Mission to Moscow" (43), "Hitler's Madman" (43), "The White Cliffs of Dover" (44) , "The Mask of Dimitrios" (44) and "The Seventh Cross" (44). Besides his activity as an actor Adolf Edgar Licho also realised several movies as a director like "Doktor Palmore" (18), "Kinder der Zeit" (22), "Tiefland" (23), "Kaddisch" (24) and "Die selige Exzellenz" (27). Adolf Edgar Licho was married with the actress Martha Angerstein.
