. The screenwriter Robert Liebmann finished his Law studies before he began to work as a critic for film and theater for several publications. Finally he widened his literarily repertoire and he wrote lines for revues and librettos. From 1919 he also started his career as a screenwriter. To hist first screenplays belong "Die Prostitution" (19), "Die letzten Menschen" (19), "Die sich verkaufen" (19) and "Unheimliche Geschichten: Die Hand" (19). Robert Liebmann became a well-known screenwriter in the 20s and he wrote the scripts for numerous productions. To his well-known movies of that time belong "Der Graf von Cagliostro" (20), "Va banque" (20), "Der Hund von Baskerville" (20), "Der Mann ohne Namen" (21), "Das Geld auf der Strasse" (22), "Mutter und Kind" (24), "Der Flug um den Erdball" (25), "Das Abenteuer der Sibylle Brant" (25), "Der Feldherrnhügel" (26), "Der Meister von Nürnberg" (27), "Moral" (28), "Mann gegen Mann" (28), "Der Raub der Sabinerinnen" (28), "Der schwarze Domino" (29), "Manolescu - Der König der Hochstapler" (29) and "Der Sträfling aus Stambul" (29). He was able to set a course for the German film at the beginning of the 30s too and he wrote the screenplays for well-known productions like "Der unsterbliche Lump" (30), the classic "Der blaue Engel" (30), "Liebling der Götter" (30), "Einbrecher" (30), "Der Kongress tanzt" (31), "Yorck" (31), "Der Sieger" (32), "Mensch ohne Namen" (32), "Ich bei Tag und du bei Nacht" (32) and "Walzerkrieg" (33). Despite his merit for the German film it did not protect him from the new political power - the National Socialism. As a Jew his days in Germany were numbered. He went via France to the USA and he only wrote few more screenplays in the emigration like "Early to Bed" (33) and "The Only Girl" (34). Finally he returned to France where he continued his film career. He wrote the screenplay for "Lumières de Paris" (38) and "Carrefour" (38). When Germany invaded France Robert Liebmann was arrested and he came via Drancy to the concentration camp Auschwitz where he perished shortly after.
