The actor and director Hubert Marischka belongs to the Austrian film
pioneers who shot his first movie as a director in 1913 called "Der Milllionenonkel".
He also wrote the script and appeared as an actor in it.
Before he made a name as a theater actor who made his debut in 1904
at the Stadttheater in St. Pölten. It followed engagements in Brünn,
at the Theater an der Wien and at the Carltheater.
In the following years he became a popular operetta singer and took
over the direction of the Theater an der Wien in 1923. He staged many operettas
like "Das weisse Rössel" and "Gräfin Mariza", which got also
attention behind the frontier.
It lasted 23 years till his next work as a director for a movie, meanwhile
he was still active as an actor for silent movies like "Zwei Freunde" (15),
"Mir kommt keiner aus" (17) und "Die Huronen" (21).
With "Konfetti" (36) he launched his new director career in film business,
it followed other productions like "Ihr Leibhusar" (37), "Das Glück
wohnt nebenan" (39), "Ein Mann für meine Frau" (43), Der Meisterdetektiv"
(44) and "Der Herr Kanzleirat" (48).
Moreover he shot the movies "Knall und Fall als Hochstapler" (52), "Die
Perle von Tokay" (53) and "Lass die Sonne wieder scheinen" (55) in the
50's.
