Paul Merzbach

. The screenwriter and director Paul Merzbach began his theater career as a director and dramatic advisor in Vienna where he worked for different theaters. From 1921 he wrote regular screenplays for movies. To his numerous screenplays of the 20s belong the silent movies "Das Haus in der Dragonergasse" (21) "Die goldene Pest" (21), "Lola Montez, die Tänzerin des Königs" (22), "Die grosse Unbekannte" (24), "Das Geheimnis der alten Mamsell" (25) and "Der Bankkrach unter den Linden" (26). Finally he went to Sweden were he continued to write screenplays till 1932. To these productions belong "Förseglade läppar - Versiegelte Lippen" (27), "Parisiskor - Dr. Monnier und die Frauen" (28), "Synd - Rausch" (28), "För hennes skull" (30), "Dantes myterier" (31) and "Falska millionären" (31). When he returned to Germany he wrote the script for "Das Geheimnis um Johann Orth" (32) but shortly afterwards he had leave the country again with the rise of the National Socialists and he went to England. There he wrote his last screenplays for "Temptation" (34) "Invitation to the Waltz" (35) and "Hatter's Castle" (42). Besides his activity as a screenwriter Paul Merzbach also realised several movies as a director with "Der Klabautermann" (24), "Das Geheimnis der alten Mamsell" (25), "Der Bankkrach unter den Linden" (26), "För hennes skull" (30), "Dantes mysterier" (31), "Love at the Second Sight" (34), "Invitation to the Waltz" (35) and "A Star Fell from Heaven" (36).
