. The writer, producer and director Ernst Neubach began his artistic career as writer of lyrics for hit songs as well as libretti for operettas. To his well-known lyrics belong "Ich hab' mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren", "Heut' ist der schönste Tag in meinem Leben" and "Ein Lied geht um die Welt". He joined the film business in 1930 and he wrote numerous screenplays for productions like "Königin einer Nacht" (30), "Die zärtlichen Verwandten" (30), "Kasernenzauber" (31), "Wochenend im Paradies" (31), "Trenck" (32), "Ein Lied geht um die Welt" (33) and "Vorstadtvariete" (35). He also realised his first movies as a director in 1932 with "Untermieter gesucht" (32) and "Trenck" (32). He was even active as a producer at that time and to these movies belong "Vorstadtvariete" (35), "Ein Walzer um den Stephansturm" (35) and "Schatten der Vergangenheit" (36). When Austria became part of the Third Reich the career of the Jew Ernst Neubach ended in his homeland. He went to France where he continued his career as a screenwriter with "Gibraltar" (39), "Pièges" (39) and "Sérénade" (40). Afterwards he joined the Foreign Legion and was positioned in North Africa. But when he was even not safe there from the grasp of the National Socialists he went to Switzerland where he remained till after the war. He returned to France after the war and in 1952 he returned to Germany. In both countries he was active again in the film business. As a screenwriter he wrote for the movies "On ne meurt pas comme ça" (46), "Une nuit à Tabarin - Eine Nacht im Tabarin" (47), "Lured - Angelockt" (47), "Le signal rouge - Rote Signale" (49), "Man lebt nur einmal" (52), "Tourbillon" (53), "Die Wirtin an der Lahn" (55), "Ein Lied geht um die Welt" (58) and "Die rote Hand" (60). As a producer he was responsible for "On ne meurt pas comme ça" (46), "Le signal rouge" (49), "Die Fischerin vom Bodensee" (56), "Wetterleuchten um Maria" (57), "Lass mich am Sonntag nicht allein" (59), "Die rote Hand" (60) and "Sperrbezirk" (66). In "Sperrbezirk" Ernst Neubach also impersonated a small role in front of the camera. His last directed movies were "Le signal rouge" (49), "On demande un assassin" (49), "Les mémoires de la vache Yolande" (51), "Ich hab' mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren" (52), "Man lebt nur einmal" (52) and "Der Kaiser und das Wäschermädel"(57). Besides his activity for the film Ernst Neubach also wrote several novels, some of them were also filmed like "Der Mann, der seinen Mörder sucht" (31), "Heut' ist der schönste Tag in meinem Leben" (35), "Briefträger Müller" (53) and "Alles im Eimer" (81), released after his death.
