Erich Nikowitz

The actor Erich Nikowitz began his artistic career in theater, including engagements with Max Reinhardt at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

He made his film debut in 1939 with the production “Anton der Letzte” (39).
In the following years, he became a busy supporting actor in films such as “Unsterblicher Walzer” (39), “Ein Leben lang” (40), “Liebe ist zollfrei” (41) and “Wen die Götter lieben” (42).

After the war, he successfully continued his film career, appearing in “Singende Engel” (47), “Erzherzog Johanns grosse Liebe” (50), “Such a Millionaire Has It Hard” (58), “The Land of Smiles” (61), “With Best Regards” (62), “A Nice Guy” (63), “The Girl from the Bohemian Forest” (65) and “Knitted Traces” (71).

However, he achieved his greatest popularity with the role of Archduke Franz Karl in the three films “Sissi” (55), “Sissi, the Young Empress” (56) and “Sissi - The Fateful Years of an Empress” (57).

Erich Nikowitz was married to the actress Elisabeth Markus.
