. The actress Mizzi Parla was born Maria Amalia Puchta in Prague. Her father was the mathematician Anton Puchta (1851-1903). After completing her school education, she attended the Gothov-Grünecke operetta school, after which she received her first engagements from 1908. Just one year later, she was brought to the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, where she was soon also playing leading roles. Over the next few years, she appeared regularly in Austria and Germany. Finally she was discovered for the film business by Heinrich Bolten-Baeckers in 1911 and in the next years she acted in front of the camera in numerous movies. To her first productions belong “Leo Saperloter” (11), “Dissonanzen des Lebens” (13) and “Seine Kammerjungfer” (13). It followed other movies like “Das Füsschen mit der goldenen Schlange” (14), “Die zweite Mutter” (14), “Michels eiserne Faust” (14), “Die gute Fee” (15) and “Kapellmeisters Pflegekind” (15). Afterwards Mizzi Parla retired from the film business and acted at the theater sporadically till 1920. When she got married in 1921 she said goodbye to the artistic life for good.
