Walther Pittschau

1889 - 1946

.
.
The actor and director Walther Pittschau grew up in an artistic family. His father was the theater actor Ernst Pittschau (1859-1916). His brother Ernst Pittschau Jr. (1883-1951) and his stepbrother Werner Pittschau (1902-1928) also became successful actors.

At the beginning of the 20th century, he established himself as a stage actor, but his theater career was interrupted by World War I and he served in the German army.

After the war, he resumed his stage career and performed at the New German Theater in Prague, among other venues. From 1925 onwards, he took on engagements at various theaters in Germany.

In 1935, he took over the management of the Municipal Theater in Chemnitz, which he ran for the next three years. He then became artistic director of the Schauspielhaus in Potsdam.

Walther Pittschau rarely appeared in films. He acted in the productions “Kiki” (1932), “Kreuzer Emden” (1932), and “Der Feldherrnhügel” (1932).
