Karl Huszar-Puffy

. The actor Karl Huszar-Puffy was born as Karoly Huszar in Budapest. He began his stage acting career in Hungary in 1905. He became a popular stage comedian in the 10s with his figure "Pufi". The figure became so popular that he added it to his real name. Karl Huszar-Puffy also made his film debut in Hungary. To his first movies belong "Pufi cipöt vesz" (14), "Szent Péter esernyöje" (17) and "Az ezredes" (17). He went to Germany in 1918 where he soon became a busy actor in German silent movies. Beside it he continued to appear on stage. To his well-known movies of those years belong "Putschliesel" (20), "Der Mann ohne Namen" (21), "Der Roman eines Dienstmädchens" (21), "Der Sträfling von Cayenne" (21), "Der müde Tod" (21), "Die Abenteuerin von Monte Carlo" (21), "Kinder der Finsternis" (21), "Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler" (22), "Der Graf von Essex" (22), "Das Weib auf dem Panther" (23) and "Die grosse Unbekannte" (24). Despite his numerous engagements in Germany he went to the USA in 1924 where he continued his film career. There he was normally engaged for short movies besides few feature movies. So his works in the USA belong "The Rose of Paris" (24), "Rolling Stones" (25), "The Lucky Accident" (25), "The Milky Way" (25), "By the Sea" (25), "Tight Cargo" (26), "Help Wanted" (26), "Mixed Doubles" (26), "The Mystery Club" (26), "Wild Bill" (26), "The Lost Soul" (27), "The Party Man" (27), "Love Me and the World Is Mine" (27), "The Private Life of Helen of Troy" (27) and "The Man Who Laughs" (28). Afterwards he returned to Germany where he again impersonated numerous support roles in popular movies like "Das Land ohne Frauen" (29), "Ich küsse Ihre Hand, Madame" (29), "Der blaue Engel" (30), "Zweimal Hochzeit" (30), "Der König von Paris" (30), "Das gelbe Haus des King-Fu" (31), "Fünf von der Jazzband" (32), "Der tolle Bomberg" (32), "Kleine Mutti" (35) and "Viereinhalb Musketiere" (35). His last cinematical works came in Hungary into being with "Az ember néha téved" (38) and "Nehéz apénak lenni" (38). With the outbreak of World War II he fled to the Sovjet Union. When he wanted to go to the USA he was arrested and he came via the labor camp Kokusekt to the camp Spassk - both were located in Kazakhstan. There he died in 1942.
