The actress Maria Ray was born Greta Maria Altschul in Vienna.
 
She acted primarily in the theater, where she also worked as a costume designer in later years.
 
She only made sporadic guest appearances in film. These include the productions “...und alle dürsten nach Liebe” (34), “Ballerina” (36) and “Das Entkommen” (40).
