. The screenwriter Alfred Schirokauer finished his law studies before he began his professional life as a lawyer. Still active as a lawyer he wrote his first novel "Ilse Isensee" (04) and in the next years followed many other novels like "Marta Riel" (08), "Messalina" (10), "Die graue Macht" (10), "Einsame Frauen" (11), "Ferdinand Lassalle" (12), "Die siebente Grossmacht" (14), "Satan" (14), "August der Starke" (16), "Irrwege der Liebe" (20), "Mirabeau" (21), "Die lieben jungen Frauen" (22), "Napoleons erste Ehe" (23), "Lord Byron" (25), "Lukrezia Borgia" (25), "Hinter der Welt" (26), "Der Tanz auf der Weltkugel" (27), "Die Frau von gestern und morgen" (28), "Die unmögliche Liebe" (29), "Kleopatra" (30), "Alarm" (30), "Acht im Urwald" (30), "Don Juan auf der Flucht" (32), "Der erste Mann" (32) and "Schüsse in Shanghai" (32). He already got in touch with the film business in 1913 and he wrote his first screenplay for "Das verschleierte Bild von Gross-Kleindorf" (13). In the next years he wrote other screenplays like "Das amerikanische Duell" (14), "Werner Krafft" (16) and "Die nicht sterben dürfen" (19). He managed the breakthrough as a screenwriter in the 20s and he wrote numerous scripts for popular productions. To these works belong the movies "Die Nacht der Entscheidung" (20), "Der Totenkopf" (20), "Frauenbeichte" (21), "Der Favorit der Königin" (22), "Die graue Macht" (23), "Mutter und Sohn" (24), "Der Hahn im Korb" (25), "Die Flucht in die Nacht" (26), "Arme kleine Colombine" (27), "Primanerliebe" (27), "Der Himmel auf Erden" (27), "Der Orlow" (27), "Die Frau von gestern und morgen" (28) and "Sturmflut der Liebe" (29). The 30s marked the end of his film career. He was only able to write few more screenplays, among them "Boykott" (30), "Zwei Menschen" (30), "Der Fall des Generalstabs-Oberst Redl" (31), "Elisbeth von Österreich" (31) and "Unmögliche Liebe" (32). As a Jew he had to emigrate abroad where he was able to write few more screenplay like "De familie van mijn vrouw" (35), "Lucrèce Borgia" (35) und "August der Starke" (36). Besides his activity as a screenwriter Alfred Schirokauer also realised some movies as a director with "Die Faust des Schicksals" (21), "Mutter und Sohn" (24) and "Der Himmel auf Erden" (27). Other
