. The actor Karl Skraup belonged to the popular national actors in Austria. They founded the Karl Skraup price for exceptional Austrian theater actors in 1968 to his honour. He first got in contact with the theater as a stage inspector but it
didn't last long till he was able to prove his acting abilities. He began
his career at the Vienna Volkstheater in 1924, it followed engagements
in Basel, Brünn and Strassbourg.
He entered the film business in the middle of the 30's and played numerous support roles in well-known movies like "Vorstadtvariete" (35), "Burgtheater" (36), "Premiere" (36), "Zwischen Strom und Steppe" (38), "13 Stühle" (38) und "Leinen aus Irland" (39). He continued his film career in the 40's with the productions "Krambambuli" (40), "Der Herr im Haus" (40), "Paracelsus" (43), "Die kluge Marianne" (43), "Der Fall Molander" (45), "Die Welt dreht sich verkehrt" (47), "Der Engel mit der Posaune" (48) and "An klingenden Ufern" (49). His last cinematical works came into being in the 50's, to these movies
belong "Kind der Donau" (50), "Abenteuer im Schloss" (52), "Flucht ins
Schilf" (53), "Tiefland" (54), "Um Thron und Liebe" (55), "Mozart" (56),
"Gasparone" (56) and "Der Schäfer vom Trutzberg" (58).
