Nico Turoff

. The actor and boxer Nico Turoff was born as Nikoal Turow in Krementschuk. He began a boxing career in the Russian empire but he had to leave his home country because of the October Revolution in 1917. He continued his career as a boxer in Europe and he was active in Spain among other countries. He retired from the boxing at the age of 26 and he chose a complete different career - the one of a movie actor. Because of his impressive appearance he was engaged for numerous movies and he began his film career still in the silent movie era. To his first productions belong "Die vom anderen Ufer" (26), "Der Sieg der Jugend" (27), "Mata Hari, die rote Tänzerin" (27), "Eddy Polo im Wespennest" (28), "Schinderhannes" (28), "Abwege" (28), "Lux, der König der Verbrecher" (29) and "Giftgas" (29). Nico Turoff continued his film career successfully in the sound film era of the 30s and he was often casted for negative characters. Till the end of World War II he took part in movies like "Cyankali" (30), "Trenck" (32), "Die unmögliche Frau" (36), "Capriccio" (38), "Stukas" (41), "G.P.U." (42) and "Das Leben ruft" (44). Nico Turoff remained a populuar support actor after the war as well and he remained active as actor till to the old age. To his numerous appearances in front of the camera in East Germany belong "Das Mädchen Christine" (49), "Das kalte Herz" (50), "Das Beil von Wandsbek" (51), "Roman einer jungen Ehe" (52), "Die Unbesiegbaren" (53), "Die Geschichte vom kleinen Muck" (53), "Ernst Thälmann - Sohn seiner Klasse" (54), "Thomas Müntzer" (56), "Gejagt bis zum Morgen" (57), "Les misérables" (58), "Emilia Galotti" (68) and "Eine alte Liebe" (59). The 60s and 70s offered him again many other opportunities to act in movies, normally he impersonated very small roles. To his last cinematical works belong "Kabale und Liebe" (60), "Königskinder" (62), "Die schwarze Galeere" (62), "Geheimnis der 17" (63), "Der fliegende Holländer" (64), "Die Heiden von Kummerow und ihre lustigen Streiche" (67), "Hauptmann Florian von der Mühle" (69), "Schüsse unterm Galgen" (70), "Dornröschen" (71), "Zement" (73), "Kit & Co." (74), "Till Eulenspiegel" (74), "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" (76), "Happy End" (77) and "Trini" (79).
