The actor Martin Urtel first learnt the profession of a graphic artist
before he took acting lessons at the Berliner Staatstheater.
He was already engaged for the stage by Gustaf Gründgens in 1932
for whom he worked till 1935.
After his departure from Berlin in direction to Munich he continued
his theater career at the Munich Kammerspielen, where he acted till 1945.
He made his film debut in 1941 with the productions "Venus vor Gericht"
(41) and "Kameraden" (41).
Till the end of war followed the movies "Zwischen Himmel und Erde"
(42), "Fünftausend Mark Belohnung" (42), "Paracelsus" (43) and "Moselfahrt
mit Monika" (44).
He continued his career after the war both at the theater and in the
film business. Later he also was active for television.
To his well-known movies of the 50s and 60s belong "Decision Before
Dawn" (51), "Nachts auf den Strassen" (53), "Der letzte Mann" (55), "Ein
Mann im schönsten Alter" (64), "Der letzte Ritt nach Santa Cruz" (64),
"Peau d'espion" (67), "Jacobowsky und der Oberst" (67) and "Die missbrauchten
Liebesbriefe" (69).
In the 70s followed his last cinematical works with "Deep End" (70),
"Bluebeard" (72), "Magdalena, vom Teufel besessen" (74) and the serial
"Jauche und Levkojen" (79).
With "Die Fälschung" (81) he said goodbye from film and TV.
