Karl Vass

. The cinematographer Karl Vass worked like many other cinematographers of that time as a photographer at first before he entered the film business as a camera assistant in 1914. Few years later he became a leading cinematographer and he shot movies like "Radmirov Katalin" (17), "Lili" (18), "Havasi szerelem" (18), "Casanova" (18) and "Aphrodite" (18). Finally he left Hungary and he went to Austria and afterwards to Germany where he continued his film career successfully. To his well-known works of the 20s belong "Das rote Plakat" (21), "Lady Hamilton" (21), "Lucrezia Borgia" (22), "Paganini" (23), "Carlos und Elisabeth" (24), "Hanseaten" (25), "Liebe im Rausch" (27) and "Lockendes Gift" (29). In the sound film era of the 30s he was able to work in Germany till 1938 and he led the camera for the productions "Der Feldherrnhügel" (32), "Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse" (33), Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph des Willens" (35), "Der Dschungel ruft" (36) and again for Leni Riefenstahl's "Olympia" (38). When World War II broke out he returned to Hungary where he continued to work as a cinematographer. To his last cinematical works belong "Süt a nap" (39), "Göre Gabor visszatér" (40), "Sarajevo" (40), "Jelmezbal" (42), "Sari biro" (43) and "Kétszer kettö" (44).
