Hans von Zedlitz

1890 - 1948

.
.
The actor Hans von Zedlitz was born as Hans Albrecht Freiherr von Zedlitz und Neukirch in Berlin.

He began his acting career as a teenager, appearing on his first theatrical stages from 1904.
In Hamburg he consolidated his position as a stage actor and his engagements took him to Leipzig, Bremen and Berlin.

In film he first appeared in front of the camera in 1919 for the productions "Der lebende Tote" (19) and "Wenn das Leben nein sagt" (19).

In the 20's followed more silent movies with "Tänzerin Tod" (20), "Die Frau in den Wolken" (20) and "Unter Blutschuld" (23).

After a longer break he continued his film career in the 30's.
To these productions belong "Einmal eine grosse Dame sein" (34), "Pechmarie" (36), "Herr Kobin geht auf Abenteuer" (34), "Sie und die Drei" (35), "Artisten" (35) and "Geheimnis eines alten Hauses" (36).

His career ended abruptly in 1936 because he was banned to work in the German Reich as a half-Jew.

Hans von Zedlitz emigrated with his family via Vienna to Moscow, where, however, he was no longer safe due to the Hitler-Stalin Pact and was arrested. While his family returned to Germany, Hans von Zedlitz spent six months in prison. During this time, his marriage was divorced.
Subsequently, he was extradited to Germany and arrested again.
Finally, he was able to leave for Switzerland in 1938, where he was able to continue his stage career at the Städtebundtheater Biel-Solothurn and remained active there until shortly before his death. For this theater he also realized several plays as a director.

Hans von Zedlitz was married with the actress Leonore Ehn. Their son Gerd von Zedlitz (1923-1945) became a child actor at the theater.
