Der Schauspieler Wesley Barry wurde 1914 von einem Mitglieder der Kalem
Productions für den Film entdeckt und ein Jahr später feierte
der sommersprossige Wesley Barry sein Filmdebüt mit "The Phoney Cannibal"
(15). In den ersten Jahren seiner Filmlaufbahn wurden seine Sommersprossen
allerdings für die Filmaufnahmen abgedeckt, erst ab 1917 wusste man
das Spitzbübische in Wesley Barrys Gesicht zu schätzen und zu
einem populären Markenzeichen.
Schnell avancierte er zu einem beliebten Kinderdarsteller und man sah
ihn in den nächsten Jahren in Produktionen wie "Rebecca of Sunnybrook
Farm" (17), "The Fifth Boy" (17), "Johanna Enlists" (18), "Her Kingdom
of Dreams" (19), "Daddy-Long-Legs" (19) und "Male and Female" (19).
In den 20er Jahren folgte der Höhepunkt seiner Laufbahn und er
verkörperte eindrückliche Rollen in "The White Circle" (20),
"Stranger Than Fiction" (21), "School Days" (21), "Penrod" (22), "The Country
Kid" (23), "George Washington jr." (24), "The Fighting Club" (25), "Wild
Geese" (27), "In Old Kentucky" (27), "Skyscraper" (28) und "Innocents of
Paris" (29).
Mit dem Tonfilm und den Kinderschuhen entwachsen, wurden seine Rollen
schnell kleiner. In den kommenden Jahren verkörperte er Nebenrollen
in den Filmen "Sunny Skies" (30), "Get That Venus" (33), "Night Life of
the Gods" (35), "Lady Be Careful" (36), "Pick a Star" (37), "Battle of
Broadway" (38) und "Man About Town" (39).
Mit "Ladies' Day" (43) entstand sein letzter Film als Schauspieler.
Im Gegensatz zu vielen Kinderstars akzeptierte Wesley Barry, dass seine
Zeit als Filmstar zu Ende war und wandte sich anderen Bereichen innerhalb
des Filmgeschäftes zu.
So begann er eine Laufbahn als Regie-Assistent und Second-Unit-Regisseur
und realsierte in dieser Funktion Filme wie "Danerous Money" (46), "Buffalo
Bill Rides Again" (47), "Rocky" (48), "The Golden Eye" (48), "Kidnapped"
(48), "Black Midnight" (49), "The Wolf Hunters" (49), "A Modern Marriage"
(50), "Ghost Chasers" (51), die Serie "Lassie" (62-64), "The St. Valentine's
Day Massacre" (67), die Serie "The Mod Squad" (68-69), "The Monk" (69),
"Yuma" (71), "If Tomorrow Comes" (71) und die Serie "The Rookies" (72-75).
Ab 1950 trat Wesley Barry auch als Produzent in Erscheinung, ab 1952
realisierte er auch einige Filme und Fernsehproduktionen als Regisseur.
