. The actress Lilian Braithwaite was well-known as a stage actress in the first place, she only appeared sporadically in movies. She made her stage debut in South Africa and when she returned to England she soon became established as a serious actress on British stages. Her first appearance in a movie came in 1915 into being with the movies "The World's Desire" and "Motherhood". In the next years she took part in other silent movies, among them "Dombey and Son" (17), "The Chinese Puzzle" (19), "Garryowen" (20), "Mary-Find-the-Gold" (21) and Alfred Hitchcock's "Downhill" (27). In the 30's followed only few more productions like "A Man of Mayfair"
(31) and "Carnival" (31).
She was married with the actor Gerald Lawrence. Her daughter Joyce Carey
became also an actress.
