The producer Trem Carr shaped quase the opposite pole to the majof
studios in Hollywood. In contrast to the many budget millions of his competition
he produced cheap movies with less known actors - most western.
Trem Carr began his film career with his own company which he founded
in 1926.
He produced in the next years movies like "The Show Girl" (27), "Prince
of the Plains" (27), "Wild Born" (27), "The Branded Man" (28), "The Divine
Sinner" (28), "The Black Pearl" (28) and "The Phantom in the House" (29).
In 1931 he aligned with W. Ray Johnston by Monogram Pictures and was
the production head from 1931 to 1935 - his own company kept active till
1939. Trem Carr was responsible for movies like "Rider of the Plains" (31),
"Partners of the Trail" (31), "The Montana Kid" (31), "Oklahoma Jim" (31),
"Ghost City" (32), "Law of the West" (32), "Vanishing Men" (32), "Hidden
Valley" (32), "The Diamond Trail" (33), "The Fugitive" (33), "The Mystery
Man" (35) and "Two Sinners" (35).
Monogram was sold in 1935 and a new company called "Republic Pictures"
was born - under the authority of Herbert J. Yates. Already in 1937 it
became clear that the divide between Carr, Johnston and Yates was so big
that both Carr and Johnston left the company. For a brief time they produced
some movies for Universal before they launched Monogram Pictures again.
In the same year they were able to produce again more than 20 movies.
Trem Carr produced in his last ten years of live movies like "Adventure's
End" (37), "The Spy Ring" (38), "Border Wolves" (38), "Air Devils" (38),
"Black Bandit" (38), "The Phantom Stage" (39), "Women in Bondage" (43),
"Hot Rhythm" (44) and "Divorce" (45).
Trem Carr died unexpected because of coronary in 1946 - he war 55 years
old.
