1897 - 1972

Nach dem Krieg kehrte er zur Bühne zurück, wo er zunächst beim Varieté und später in New York erfolgreich agierte.
Dort spielte er u.a. am Broadway im Stück "We've Got to Have Money" (23).
In New York wurde er schliesslich von Samuel Goldwyn entdeckt und er engagierte den fast 40-jährigen Schauspieler für den Film.

Jerome Cowan feierte sein Filmdebüt mit "Beloved Enemy" (36) und in den kommenden Jahren wurde er ein äusserst vielbeschäftigter Nebendarsteller, der in unzähligen Kinofilmen und ab den 50er Jahren auch in etlichen Fernsehproduktionen agierte.

Zu Jerome Cowans Filmen der 30er Jahre gehören "You Only Live Once" (37), "The Hurricane" (37), "There's Always a Woman" (38), "East Side of Heaven" (39) und "The Gracie Allen Murder Case" (39).

In den 40er Jahren gehörte er zur festen Grösse von Nebendarstellern und er verkörperte Rollen in Produktionen wie "Wolf of New York" (40), "High Sierra" (41), "Singapore Woman" (41), "The Maltese Falcon" (41), "Mr. and Mrs. North" (42), "Mission to Moscow" (43), "The Song of Bernadette" (43), "Minstrel Man" (44), "Divorce" (45), "My Reputation" (46), "The Kid from Brooklyn" (46) und schliesslich eine Reihe von Filmen um die Figur "Blondie", worin er jeweils die Rolle des George M. Radcliffe verkörperte wie in "Blondie Knows Best" (46), "Blondie's Big Moment" (47), "Blondie's Anniversary" (47), "Blondie's Secret" (48) und "Blondie Hits the Jackpot" (49).
Weitere Filme ausserhalb von Blondie waren in dieser Zeit "Miracle on 34th Street" (47), "The Unfaithful" (47), "So This Is New York" (48), "The Lady Gambles" (49) und "Scene of the Crime" (49).

Ab den 50er Jahren nahm das Fernsehen eine immer dominatere Rolle in Cowans Karriere ein und er agierte nur noch sporadisch in Kinofilmen
Zu seinen bekanntesten Arbeiten der 50er Jahre zählen "Joe Palooka Meets Humphrey" (50), "The West Point Story" (50), "Dallas" (50), eine Episode der Serie "Suspense: A Vision of Death" (51), eine Episode der Serie "The Web: Checkmate" (51), eine Episode der Serie "Mr. & Mrs. North: Beauty Prize" (53), "The System" (53), eine Episode der Serie "U.S. Marshal: Paper Bulletts" (58), eine Episode der Serie "Rawhide: Incident of the 13th Man" (59), eine Episode der Serie "The Twilight Zone: The Sixteen Millimeter Shrine" (59), eine Episode der Serie "Bat Masterson: The Conspiracy" (59), eine Episode der Serie "77 Sunset Stript: The Grandma Caper" (59), eine Episode der Serie "The Alaskans: Winter Song" (59) und eine Episode der Serie "Perry Mason: The Case of the Lost Act" (59).

Seine Schaffenskraft hielt auch in den 60er Jahren unverminder an. (65), "Frankie and Johnny" (66), eine Episode der Serie "The Munsters: Herman's Lawsuit" (66), eine Episode der Serie "Daniel Boone: Goliath" (66), "Penelope" (66) und "The Comic" (69).

Bis kurz vor seinem Tod aktiv bleibend entstanden seine letzten filmischen Arbeiten anfangs der 70er Jahre mit einer Episode der Serie "Green Acres: The Beeping Rock" (70) und eine Episode der Serie "Alias Smith and Jones: The Root of It All" (71).
